“The Floating Piers” by Christo & Jeanne-Claude

18 June – 3 July 2016
Lake Iseo, Italy

Christo offered himself the realisation of “The Floating Piers” to his 81st birthday. Nevertheless, the project was already conceived in the 1970s, together with his late wife Jeanne-Claude, but refused by Argentina and Japan.

In 2014, Christo finally found the lake Iseo in northern Italy. During 16 days, visitors can now promenade 3 km on the water and enjoy the installation. Afterwards, the components will be removed and industrially recycled.

All costs for the realisation are borne by the artist himself, through the sale of his preparatory studies. The access to the installation is free. Parking and shuttles are payable to the local administration, who do a great job in managing to move all the guests.
