We started 2018 with the diptych \u201cOuagadougou\/New York\u201d by Joana Choumali<\/a><\/span>, where the artist from the Ivory Coast, reflects about the impact of migration in the home and the arrival countries.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Moreover, we visited the exhibition \u201cArt x Cuba. Contemporary Perspectives since 1989\u201d<\/a><\/span> in the Aachen Ludwig Forum f\u00fcr Internationale Kunst. Artworks from the Caribbean island up from 1989 communicated with most recent positions.<\/p>\n

The artwork of the month of February came also from Cuba. In her series \u201cUrban Landscape \u2013 The Habitat Project\u201d Lisette Sol\u00f3rzano<\/a><\/span> questions in the medium of photography about modifications within the urban space and their significance for the population.<\/p>\n

Traditionally, the month of February was concentrated on the Bolognese art week<\/a><\/span>, with the art fair ARTE FIERA<\/a><\/span>, the independent SetUp CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR<\/a><\/span> and the numerous collateral events all over the town within the ARTE City<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

In March, we presented the artwork \u201cHuisvrouw\u201d (Housewife) by Elyse Galiano<\/a><\/span>. It is part of her series \u201cApolline, Constance et les autres \u2026\u201d for which the artist embroidered texts from ancient manuals of good manners for women with natural hair on canvas.<\/p>\n

Additionally, we visited the exhibition \u201cVivian Maier \u2013 La fotografa ritrovata\u201d<\/a><\/span> in the Bolognese Palazzo Pallavicini.<\/p>\n

Two artists from Argentina – Mariela Fornasari and Ainel\u00e9n Bertotti Burket<\/a><\/span> \u2013 conceived their \u201cAutorretrato\u201d (Self-portrait) in four dimensions. The installation plays with the four dimensions, inviting the beholder to perceive the artwork regarding his\/her own conditions.<\/p>\n

The Bolognese gallery P420 presented \u201cLaura Grisi \u2013 Hypothesis on Infinity\u201d<\/a><\/span> as time journey into the late 1960s and early 1970s, when the Italian artist was first approved.<\/p>\n

Once again, we met Elyse Galiano and her works. For the exhibition, \u201cFil Rouge\u201d<\/a><\/span> the Florence gallerist Antonio Lo Pinto invited Elyse Galiano<\/span><\/a> and Donatella Lombardo<\/span><\/a>, two artists with different backgrounds. However, there are common things in the works of both. Formally, the two artists are using \u2013 inter alia \u2013 textile and thread. Furthermore, they are questioning about female role models in society.<\/p>\n

An overview of the Milanese art fair miart<\/a><\/span> showed different perspectives with its sections Decades, Generations, On Demand, Established Contemporary and Established Master.<\/p>\n

With \u201cQuestion de Libert\u00e9<\/a><\/span>\u201d (Question of Freedom) the French artist, Marie Cagnasso<\/a><\/span> reflected about protection and isolation.<\/p>\n

From May to September, the Bolognese MAMbo (Museo d\u2019Arte Moderna, Bologna) dedicated an exhibition to Rosanna Chiessi<\/a><\/span> in its Project Room. She supported national artists over 50 years and invited international artists to work with her. In doing so, her attention was directed to the artistic research and not to a production for the art market.<\/p>\n

Petra Warras<\/a><\/span> offered her \u201cLuciferine 11<\/span><\/a>\u201d as artwork of the month. With the effects of hand colouring on a photo, the artist produces effects, which easily exceed the simple reproduction of nature. This causes ambiguities in the perception.<\/p>\n

Once again, the Bolognese Academy of Fine Arts went on OPENTOUR<\/span><\/a>. We visited some of the galleries who invited students for an exhibition.<\/p>\n

Young emerging artist were also in the MAMbo on focus. The new director of the museum, Lorenzo Balbi presented 56 artists and collectives born between 1980 and 1992, who mostly created new artworks for this great summer show<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Another voyage started Giovanni de Gara with his project \u201cEldorato\u201d. Since June, he covers church portals all over Italy with golden thermal blankets. In an interview<\/span><\/a>, Giovanni explained the background and the development of the project.<\/p>\n

In her digital collage \u201cNella clandestinit\u00e0<\/span><\/a>\u201d (Living clandestine) Agnese Purgatorio<\/span><\/a> turns the map of Italy into a raft carrying a group of people guided by a pregnant woman. It questions different forms of living clandestine.<\/p>\n

Giovanni de Gara travelled further in Italy. We gave some impressions<\/span><\/a> of the installations in Lampedusa, Palermo, Bologna and Parma.<\/p>\n

Greta Sch\u00f6dl<\/span><\/a> offered the artwork of November. \u201cIl Primo Universo<\/span><\/a>\u201d (The First Universe) refers to another galaxy as at first glance is to be expected. The key for the deciphering lies in the Greek mythology.<\/p>\n

Besides gold, scripture is very prominent in Greta Sch\u00f6dl\u2019s oeuvre. We met the 89 years old and still active artist in her apartment in Bologna, where we spoke<\/span><\/a> about her background, artistic career and work.<\/p>\n

In December, Jacquie Maria Wessels<\/span><\/a> carried us off into the mysterious world of classical car repair garages. With \u201cGarage Still #10\/2014<\/span><\/a>\u201d she transforms partly unknown car tools into an open treasure chest.<\/p>\n
